Our Journalist in Residence programme provides senior writers with the stability necessary to work on longer investigations, explore entrepreneurial projects, and dive deep into artificial intelligence.

In 2024, we're proud to support Nathaniel Popper (previously at the New York Times) and Shakeel Hashim (previously at The Economist) as our inaugural journalists-in-residence.

Nathaniel Popper

Journalist in Residence

Nathaniel covered Wall Street and Silicon Valley for The New York Times for over a decade. Before that, he worked at the Forward and the Los Angeles Times in New York City.

He has reported and written about technology, finance, culture and history for over two decades. He is currently working on a mix of book, magazine, film and audio projects.

Shakeel Hashim

Journalist in Residence

Shakeel was previously a news editor at The Economist.

He recently worked as Head Of Communications at CEA and co-founded the AI Safety Communications Centre, a project connecting journalists to AI safety experts and resources. Prior to that, he was a growth manager and newsletter writer at Protocol, a financial journalist for Finimize, and the founder of an AI-journalism company.
